Need traction? During the January school holidays, 9 young people were given the opportunity to participate in the Traction Holiday Program through our Youth Transitions team. Traction is a program that provides activities to engage young people and support the development of practical skills, communication and broader life skills. During a 4-day intensive program, young people were given support and employment information, which included resume writing and cover letters, application letters and Australian workplace culture training. Moreover, the young people repaired and restored bicycles, which added to their practical work skills. These skills can now be added to their resume when applying for work.

Each young person received a certificate of attendance from both Access and Traction and were able to take their restored bicycle home with them. One participant was so keen they now volunteering with the Traction course regularly. Due to the success of the January program, Traction and Access will be running another holiday program in the second week of the April school holidays coming (Monday 10th to Thursday 13th April). If you know someone from a migrant background, under the age of 25 who live in the Logan area and will benefit from this program, please contact our Youth Transitions Manager, Minandi Rudman, directly at [email protected].
