On June 23, Access held another of its delectable ‘Taste of Culture’ events at our social enterprise café, Harmony on Carmony, this time featuring the mouth-watering flavours of Iraq. More than 60 people turned out for the family event, which taught the community about Iraq’s culture and heritage and gave them an opportunity to enjoy its colourful cuisine, traditional dancing and music. The night also included an educational presentation on Iraq’s rich history, the unfortunate realities of the present-day and a hopeful outlook to the future. To end the evening, the Iraqi community displayed their appreciation for Access and the wider community’s positive attitude to a diverse society by presenting Access’ founders, Des and Noeline Clamp, with a hand knitted Australian flag.
