On October 19, 12 participants concluded their training and graduated from our Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) program with a Certificate II in Hospitality. Several participants spoke about how the training has helped them gain new experiences, with graduate Amma Laila stating, “Since moving to Australia ten years ago, my job has been raising my children. But now with this course I have learnt so much, have built my confidence, have a brand new opportunity and my very first job.” Although the course has concluded, graduates will receive ongoing support from Access Community Employment Services in applying for employment. Amma has already found employment with the Metropolitan Motor Inn, along with several others including Jamie McPherson who is now working with Novotel, coordinating bookings, banquets and conferences. Thank you to the representatives who attended the graduation – Alison Mildwaters from the Department of Education & Training, Simon Fernell from our training partner Icon and the Hon. Mark Bailey, Member for Yeerongpilly who presented the graduates with their certificates and saw first-hand how the SQW program is enriching lives.
