PAWS & WOW Women’s Personal Leadership Program

PAWS & WOW Women’s Personal Leadership Program

The PAWS & WOW Women’s Personal Leadership Program engages women from culturally diverse as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds in a Personal Leadership Course that prepares them to be future mentors, role models and leaders within their communities. Through a series of workshops and two weekend retreats, the women have an opportunity to share stories and experiences, cultural knowledge and learnings as well as spiritual healing and coping strategies.

This course provides women with the necessary foundation to engage in community building by establishing a Women’s Leadership Group. This group  aims to continue encouraging women’s collaboration to build their skills and networks to become leaders in their lives and communities. It will also provide a platform to build cultural competence with a gendered lens as well as advocate on issues relating to cultural, social and economic barriers affecting women in Logan. The program is delivered in partnership with Relationships Australia Queensland and funded through the Queensland Mental Health Commission

35 women from Syrian, Eritrean and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds participated in a weekend retreat at Samford Lakes in March 2018.
