Our youth team MyQ, recently gave local multicultural youth a night to remember as they experienced a traditional Australian school rite of passage – the Formal! The evening saw 38 young people from Logan and Ipswich frock up and dance the night away at The Glen Hotel on September 22, celebrating an Australian tradition they may have missed due to circumstance or cultural difference.
Kicking off at 6pm, the youth enjoyed a DJ, photo booth and extraordinary presentation from guest speaker Sharon Orapeleng, who spoke about her employment journey, how young people can make it in the world of work and what they can do to better themselves. Caseworkers said the highlight of the night was seeing the young people interacting with one another on the dance floor through games and competitions. The music really broke down barriers and allowed the young people to relax, enjoy themselves and make lifelong friendships and memories.
