Settlement Services International (SSI), Access Community Services and BEMAC are proud to present Homelands, a week long multi-disciplinary arts tour across Queensland and New South Wales.
Showcasing seven talented artists, Homelands aims to raise awareness and understanding of refugee experiences through cinematic exhibitions, live music, Q&As and workshops. Homelands brings artists and communities together in creative and meaningful ways that promote social cohesion and unity.
The program
‘Beyond Refuge’ exhibition - a series of captivating and poignant cinema poems and photo-stories produced by CuriousWorks, created by six Sydney based artists who share an asylum seeker and refugee experience. The series encompasses:
- Calendar - directed by Ali Al Azeez
- New home, New hopes – created by Elham BehinAein
- My name is Mohamed and Raghad. We don’t exist here anymore - directed by Ali Mousawi
- El Baile - directed by Daisy Montalvo
- Trinity - directed by Samia Halabi
- Flashback - directed by Sean Ly
‘Beyond Refuge’ workshops and Q&As with award-winning filmmakers Ali Al Azeez and Daisy Montalvo.
Live music headlined by LUATÈ. – a South Sudanese/Australian artist who is an emerging alt-pop singer/songwriter based in Brisbane. A modern-day Tracey Chapman, LUATÈ. creates highly emotive works, penning lyrics laden with viscous imagery.
The tour will take place from June 21 to June 26 in celebration of Refugee Week 2021. Homelands will traverse through art galleries, TAFEs, arts centres, community centres and live music venues across regional and metropolitan Queensland and New South Wales.
