Cyclone Debbie well and truly wreaked havoc on South-East Queensland in late March and early April. Due to the extensive flooding in the Logan area, Access Volunteer & Student Placement Manager, Michael Tawadros and Access Board Chair Michael Pearson APM worked together with Volunteer Queensland, the State Government, Logan City Council and Local Politicians – including Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, Cameron Dick and Minister for Communities, Women and Youth, Minister for Child Safety and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Shannon Fentiman – to help coordinate volunteers in the clean-up. The volunteers worked long hours together to plan routes, door-knock and assess flood damage, clean up muddy homes and remove ruined household goods, with close to 100 volunteers helping each day. Thank you to those who helped respond to aid the local community during this time of crisis!
